Breaking Your Limits & Becoming Limitless!: Exodus 4 – How to Fulfil Your Calling

Your Limits Can Lead to Limitlessness: Lessons from Exodus Chapter 4

Today I will show how your limits can lead to limitlessness based on Exodus chapter 4.

Exodus 4

A Personal Experience

Last Saturday I had my monthly Bible Mastery live session. I went to sleep that evening, but the next morning, my voice was gone.

And I began to feel disheartened. I started thinking things like:

your voice has gone Israel, you just did a powerful live stream, and now you can’t even teach anymore

As I saw myself going down that route, I had a thought and I want to share with you.

That’s not actually true is it?

That's Not True

I emailed my email community and I highlighted two things.

Leveraging Technology

The first thing I highlighted was that we live in a time with the blessing of technology.

Think about it. I wrote an email teaching the Word of God. And I was explaining how yesterday, I had this Bible Mastery live session and today my voice is gone. I shared with them how I was feeling a little ill. But instead of dwelling on the fact my voice was gone now, I have technology where, even if my voice is gone, I can write this email to you. And I can be a blessing to you by teaching you God’s Word.

Because I’m able to share it with you instantly.

A Recent Prayer Based On Exodus 4

The second thing I spoke about was a recent prayer I made based on Exodus chapter 4. I’ll share it, then we can jump into some of these verses, which will be helpful to you.

Recently I was I was praying about Exodus chapter 4. This is where God is commissioning Moses to go to Pharaoh. But Moses doubts for different reasons.

I was praying:

Lord help me be bold when it comes to you calling me and instructing me in the ways in which you want me to go about completing the mission you have for me

And also because the Lord sent Aaron to help Moses, I was praying as well:

Lord help me connect with the people you desire for me to connect with, in regards to ministry, to serve you, and to honour you, to give you most glory.

Understanding Your Unique Assignment

The places in your life where you’re like “I can’t do this for God’s kingdom…I can’t do that for God’s kingdom, because I’m not good enough, I’m limited in that scenario“.

Those are typically places where the Lord wants to make you Limitless. Let me explain Limitless by jumping into the passage.

Moses’ Mission From God In Exodus

To give you some context, Exodus 4 is off the backdrop of Exodus 3. And this is where Moses has the famous burning bush encounter. The Lord appears to Moses in a burning bush.

Now look at what God says to Moses in verse 10 of Exodus 3. Then we can get into Exodus four.

Come now therefore, [speaking to Moses] and I will send you unto Pharaoh, that you may bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.

Exodus 3:10

That was God’s mission to Moses.

Your Mission From God

God has a mission for me too.

My mission is teaching and empowering believers, to apply God’s Word to every area of life. This is what I call Bible Mastery.

God has a special assignment for you too. And in different times in our lives, God will showcase to this is what He wants you to do. How we react is going to be significant.

Confirmation With Signs And Wonders

The Lord didn’t only give Moses a mission. But The Lord confirmed to Moses with miracles.

In Exodus chapter 4:2-4 it says:

And the Lord said unto him, what [is] that in your hand? And he said, a rod. And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it. And the Lord said unto Moses, put forth your hand and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand:.

Exodus 4:2-4

Exodus 4:6-7 Continues The Miracles.

And the Lord said furthermore unto him, put now your hand into your bosom [into your your chest area]. And he put his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out, behold, his hand [was] leprous as snow. And he said, put your hand into your bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again; and he plucked it out of his bosom, and behold, it was turned again as his [other] flesh.

Exodus 4:6-7

God gave Moses two signs, to go on the journey in confidence to fulfil the mission.

God Will Give You Signs!

There will be clear signs from the Lord. They may not be as elaborate as what God gave to Moses, but they could be more elaborate. Either way, how are you going to react to the assignment God has for you?

Overcoming Limits Through God’s Power

When it comes to you following through, notice what Moses did in Exodus 4:10.

And Moses said unto the Lord, o my Lord, I [am] not eloquent, neither before, nor since you have spoken unto your servant: but I [am] slow of speech, and slow of tongue.”

Exodus 4:10

He basically says he’s not a good speaker, don’t send me, send somebody else.

Moses was so focused on what he lacked, and this is what so many of us do as Christians. We start to realize the Lord may be leading us in a particular direction, and we start saying the wrong thing.

Things like: “but why me, I’m limited, Lord can can you send somebody else?”.

God Turns Limitations into Opportunities For His Glory

Personally, when it came to teaching, I repeatedly said the wrong things.

  • But am I good enough, am I really good enough to open up God’s Word for people and to teach them?
  • Am I relatable enough?
  • Do I speak well enough?

There’s so many insecurities we have. And I’m sharing some of mine, to help you understand this lesson today.

I was doing the same thing Moses did.

Don't Focus On Your Limits!

I was focusing on what I lacked. But God’s response will help you become Limitless.

Trusting in God’s Provision

Don’t focus on your limits. Learn how to become Limitless!

Do you want to know how to become Limitless?

Let me show you.

Look at what God told Moses in Exodus 4:11-12.

And The Lord said unto him, who made man’s mouth? Or who makes the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? Have not I the Lord? Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach you what you shall say.

Exodus 4:11-12You see the powerful thing the Lord did with Moses?

The Lord is asking Moses…Why are you so focused on your limits? Don’t you know on your assignment, I am going to be with you?

Jesus said the same thing at the end of the Gospel of Matthew. Jesus said “Lo, I am with you always, until the end of the age”.

He said this to the disciples as he sent them to preach the Gospel to all nations.

The Lord is going to be with you with the mission he gives you. And this is what you need to focus on daily.

This is what I focus on more and more each day. When I notice my limits creeping into my mind like “I’ve lost my voice Lord, I can’t teach anymore“, the Lord can say, I’m with you…Do you think losing your voice Israel is enough for you to be stopped from doing the thing I’ve assigned you to do?

You know the answer to that is no. God is more powerful than losing my voice.

The Lord is with you.

God Turns Limits Into Limitlessness

Notice what God said to Moses.

I will be with your mouth. Why are you trusting in your own mouth Moses? I’m going to be with your mouth. And he says, I’m going to teach you what you shall say.

What did Jesus say in the New Testament about the Holy Spirit? Jesus said the Holy Spirit will come, indwell you, and he’s going to remind you of everything He said to you.

Do you see how the Lord works the same way in the Old Testament and in the New Testament.

Don’t get it twisted!

Take This From Exodus 4 Going Forward!

When you start focusing on your limits in any area of life, start tapping into the Limitless source which is God. And acting out what He says.

That live stream I did last Saturday for the monthly Bible Mastery live session was all about listening to God. And I feel strongly, listening to God was the theme, the Lord wanted me to realize.

It’s all about listening. But don’t listen to your limits, stop listening to yourself, listen to God. The same way God was getting Moses to understand.

Moses initially focused on he’s limits. But Moses was the one who delivered the Israelites out of Egypt. And after delivering them out of Egypt, he was the one leading and communicating things like the Ten Commandments to the Israelites.

So going forward, anytime you’re focusing on your limits, begin to listen to what God has to say on the matter. And let him lead you to limitlessness.

Until next time, I bid you Godspeed and farewell, God bless & see you soon.
