7 Biblical Steps To Success In 2023 & Beyond

If you’re looking to be more successful as a Christian this year and beyond, I have got you covered. In this article, I’ll discuss 7 Biblical steps (shared in a recent live stream), to help you achieve success in all areas of your life. I guarantee you, whenever you read this, these Biblical steps to success will work just as well.

I will leave the livestream below if you prefer to watch.

Introduction to the 7 Biblical Steps to Success

Before jumping into the seven steps, I’m asking God to guide and bless you into more wisdom this year. I recently did a 21-day “Win with Wisdom” challenge to prepare Christians in a Godly way for the year to come. Many people were encouraged by it, so I said I wanted to do more.

And I decided these 7 steps could help even more.

Why These Biblical Principles are Different!

The difference between a New Year’s resolution, or new goals and Biblical principles is that God’s Word is eternal and unchanging. I’m not sharing steps based on man’s ideas, but on the Word of God. If you use these 7 steps, you’ll be extremely successful as a Christian in 2023 and beyond.

The Four Areas of Success

Success as a Christian comes in four areas: the mental area, the physical area, the Spiritual area, and the social area of life. And success is being where God wants you to be, and having what God wants you to have in those areas.

Biblical Steps To Success - 4 areas of success

A Powerful Story To Illustrate This Lesson

Towards the end of January, I was talking to my brother about a family member who is really serious about staying physically healthy. We were discussing going to the gym and he told me how this family member hasn’t gone to the gym yet this year. I was surprised and asked why.

My brother’s response was powerful. The family member said they don’t want to go to the gym in January because it’s crowded with people who will soon quit. And they’d prefer to wait until the gym is less crowded, before they start going again consistently throughout the year.

This story illustrates an important lesson: build your success on strong foundations, not on things that are shaky, unstable or temporary.

An Important Question

Before I breakdown the first step I need to ask you something.

Do you want to be successful?

It amazes me how many people think about success, talk about success. But never actually ask and answer this question.

Do you want to be successful as a Christian?

Biblical Steps To Success # 1 – Make A Decision!

In order for you to achieve success in the coming years, there are certain Biblical steps you need to follow. The first and most significant of these steps is, making a decision to pursue success as a Christian.

Biblical Steps To Success - 1. Decide to be successful today

Without your decision, it is unlikely you will ever attain any sort of Godly success He has in store for you.

Proverbs 1:7 says “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 1:7

This verse highlights the importance of having a reverence for the King of Kings. This is necessary for any Christian seeking success. You must decide to serve and yield yourself to what God has in store for you, if you hope to achieve success in any aspect of your life.

Sadly, many Christians fail to make this decision, which is why it is crucial to emphasize its significance.

Making a decision is about choosing to focus on following God in all areas of your life, mentally, physically, Spiritually, and socially. While there is earthly wisdom available, I want you to understand, God’s wisdom is founded on an immovable object. But temporal objects and movable beings found earthly wisdom.

A Prophet Who Demanded A Decision

The story of Elijah the prophet illustrates the power of making a decision. Elijah had an encounter with hundreds of false prophets. And even though he thought he was alone, he went up to Mount Carmel ready to do battle with them. He asked the people of Israel to make a decision about following God or Baal (1 Kings 18:21).

1 Kings 18:21

Similarly, we need to decide to follow God’s plan for our lives, or we will put ourselves in a position where we are going in all different directions, without any clear destination.

The first step to Biblical success this year and beyond is to decide. You must make a conscious decision to serve God and follow His plan for your life. By doing so, you will be building your success on a firm foundation, leading to Godly success in all aspects of your life.

Biblical Steps To Success # 2 – Don’t Judge By Wordly Standards!

As Christians, we should not judge by worldly standards.

Biblical Steps To Success - 2. Don't Judge by worldly standards

I’ve spoken in the past about how I’ve envied brothers and sisters in Christ. This is a terrible position to be in. But what’s even worse than this is envying sinners. We should not envy the success of sinners, or judge the success of our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ by the world’s standards.

Proverbs 23:17-18 says, “Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the Lord all the day long. For surely there is an end, and thine expectation shall not be cut off.”

Proverbs 23:17-18

We should not envy sinners who promote a sinful lifestyle or who dishonor the king we serve as Christians. Instead, we should focus on reverencing and honouring the Lord all the day long.

Meditate on God’s Word

We should meditate on God’s Word day and night and focus on the Lord in everything we do. By doing so, we can reach much more success. We shouldn’t judge by worldly standards, and we should do everything for the Lord. We should strive to please Him above all else. Let me give you 2 examples.

Jesus on the Cross

Jesus is the perfect example of why we shouldn’t envy or judge by worldly standards. When Jesus was on the cross, people were mocking and ridiculing Him. They were judging Him by worldly standards But Jesus did not let it affect Him. Because He knew what He was doing was pleasing to the Father, and that was all that mattered.

Mark 15:29-31

Imagine the greatest, most successful act in history, and many people who saw it thought it was a failure.

Stop worrying about what the world says about what you are doing.

The Disciples

Let me give you an example closer to home. The disciples of Christ also faced disbelief when Jesus died on the cross.

Two of Jesus’s disciples in Luke’s Gospel account were walking down the Emmaus Road, sad and disheartened after his death. And Jesus met them and asked what was wrong. They said someone they thought would redeem them had died and been crucified, and they were unbelieving.

Jesus called them fools! Why? For judging by worldly standards, instead of knowing what the Bible said. He reminded them Christ had to suffer to enter into his glory, and he explained the Scriptures to them.

Luke 24:25-27

This is why we need to be constantly in the Word and in the fear of the Lord.

Jesus suffered an horrific death before ascending to glory with the Father. But suffering was necessary for him to reach that glory.

The second step to Biblical success this year and beyond is not judging by worldly standards. This is an essential step towards achieving Biblical success. You should focus on reverencing and honouring the Lord all day, meditate on God’s Word, and do everything for the Lord. don’t envy sinners. Remember, as Christians, our success is based on an immovable foundation, which is God.

Biblical Steps To Success # 3 – Be Like Christ!

Be like Christ. You can do this by focusing on Christ. And by copying His ways, you can experience success in all areas of your life.

Biblical Steps To Success - 3. Be Like Christ

The Importance of My Partners

Entering 2022 things were not going well. I sought God for guidance. And the Lord led me to focus on my monthly partners. This decision turned out to be one of the best I’d made in probably the previous 2 years. As I began to focus on my partners, every month I received more wisdom, and new opportunities began to open up for me.

Bible Mastery Live Sessions

One of the ways I thank my partners is through a live Bible study every month called Bible Mastery Live. In the middle of the year, I was preparing for a study on the Book of Proverbs. I linked a verse I had meditated on previously with the book of Proverbs and it totally blew me away.

That session was the best one that year (or the one on 1 Kings). But it changed a lot of what I did, and set me on a path to success, on a whole new level. This sets the scene for the formula that blew me away. I will share the verse first.

1 Corinthians 1:24

The 3-Step Formula

The verse that changed everything was 1st Corinthians 1:24. This verse says “Christ is the power and wisdom of God”.

From this verse, I discovered a 3-step formula that was based on being like Christ.

  1. The first step is to acknowledge that Christ is the wisdom of God.
  2. The second step is realising if Christ is the wisdom of God, being wise is being like Christ.
  3. The third step is realising every time I am foolish, I am not like Christ. And I’m actually misrepresenting the king I say I serve.

This 3-Step formula blew me away.

The third step to Biblical success this year and beyond is to be like Christ. By following this 3-step formula, you can be successful in all areas of your life. If Christ is the wisdom of God, then being like Christ means being wise. In contrast, if you are not being wise, you are not being like Christ. As a Christian, it is essential to be like Christ, as this is the key to success in God’s kingdom. The enemy will try to use every tool to distract you from this. But by being like Christ, you can achieve success.

Biblical Steps To Success # 4 – Run To God Immediately!

One powerful step that can help you in all areas of life, especially when you’re afraid or don’t know what to do, is to run to God immediately.

You are given a mandate to run to God immediately in Proverbs 18:10-11.

Biblical Steps To Success - 4. Run to God Immediately

Proverbs 18:10-11 says, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and are safe. The rich man’s wealth is his strong city and like a high wall in his own conceit.”

The Meaning of God’s Name

The Hebrew word for “name” has connotations of position, rank and authority. It is not just a simple name as we may think of today. But name represents character.

Proverbs 18:10-11

The Importance of “Running”

The Bible says the righteous run into the strong tower and are safe. But it doesn’t say they walk or creep into it…they run. And imagine every time you found yourself in a position of mental, physical, Spiritual, or social struggle, you ran to the name of the Lord. This is what we need to do when we’re struggling in all 4 areas of our lives. We need to run to God’s name, because His authority, power, and glory do not change.

Contrasting The Foolish Rich Person vs. The Righteous

The Proverb contrasts the foolish rich person who trusts in their own riches and strength, with the righteous who run to God’s name for protection. When we trust in ourselves, we are like a person standing on quicksand. But when we trust in God’s Word and run to His name, we are safe and protected.

The fourth step to Biblical success this year and beyond is to run to God immediately. It is a simple but powerful step that can help you in all areas of life. When you run to God’s name, you will find safety and protection. You need to trust in His Word and speak it over your life to achieve success in 2023 and beyond.

Biblical Steps To Success # 5 – God Is Watching!

The Bible says in Proverbs 15:3 “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

Proverbs 15:3

If you begin living with the fact God is watching you in everything you do, it can help you give your best in everything you do, just as God gives His best in everything He does.

God Is The Only View That Matters

Focusing constantly that God is the only view that matters can help you overcome fear and anxiety. When you realize God’s eyes are on you, nobody else’s eyes truly matter. This realization can help us to do our best in everything we do, and to represent the Kingdom of God properly.

2 examples.

One example is about something I said to my daughter a few weeks ago. And the other is about sharing these 7 steps.

When I do live streams, I don’t care about how many people are watching. Instead, I envision God sitting down, picking up the remote & watching me. I envision God reading this article like a newspaper. God is all the attention I need to be successful. Stop focusing on people and be in fear of the Lord. Because God’s eyes are always watching.

I recently asked my daughter Anna to clean her room, but I did something different on this occasion. I asked her to imagine if God was watching her clean her room. Think about the question I asked her. “Would you clean your room differently if God was here watching?” She said yes. The truth is, God is always watching you.

Work as Unto the Lord

The Bible tells us in many different places to “work as unto the Lord.” This is because God can see us, and we should be working as though He is right there with us. When we work as though God is watching us, we are more likely to do our best and to be a good representative.

David as a Powerful Example

When God saw David looking after sheep, He knew David was someone who could shepherd His people. How we treat others in everything we do, is how we are treating God.

The fifth step to Biblical success this year and beyond is God is watching. This realization had such positive impact for me last year. And watch what happens when you start living like this yourself.

Biblical Steps To Success # 6 – Leave It To God!

One step that can lead you to Biblical success is leaving it to God. I want to say firstly, I’m not saying what happened to you was not bad. And I’m not saying it was your fault. But I am encouraging you to wait for God.

In Proverbs chapter 20:22, it says “Say not you, ‘I will recompense evil,’ wait on the Lord and He shall save you.” This verse reminds us to trust in God’s plan and not seek revenge.

Proverbs 20:22

Don’t Seek Revenge, Wait on the Lord

The first step to leaving it to God is to stop seeking revenge. It’s easy to want to take matters into your own hands when you’ve been wronged. But you should trust in God’s plan. Seeking revenge can hold you back and slow you down from what the Lord has in store for you. Instead, you should wait on the Lord, who is the ultimate avenger.

Letting Go of Weight

Holding onto the wrongs others have done to you is like carrying around extra weight. This extra weight can hold you back and make it harder for you to move forward. You should let go of this weight and allow the Lord to take you to where He wants you to go. The Lord knows what happened. And He will take care of it. But you need to fully trust in Him by letting go of the baggage holding you down.

Waiting for God’s Timing

It’s important you remember God does things in wisdom and not in folly. He always arrives at the best time possible. You should wait on the Lord to act in His perfect timing, not yours. This can be difficult, but it’s essential for Biblical success. You need to have faith The Lord will take care of you and those who have wronged you.

The sixth step to Biblical success this year and beyond is to leave it to God. Let’s drop the weight of the wrongs that have been done to us and trust in His plan. By doing so, we can be the best vessel possible for God to use. Let’s seek God’s success by constantly learning and meditating on His Words. Biblical success is within our reach, we just need to leave it to God.

Biblical Steps To Success # 7 – Use ALL Of God’s Word!

While the book of Proverbs contains a great deal of practical wisdom, it is not the only source of wisdom found in the Bible. To truly succeed, you must use all of God’s Word, just like Jesus. And Jesus’ wilderness temptation is a favourite of mine.

Using Every Word of God

Proverbs 30:5 says “Every Word of God is pure: he a shield unto them that put their trust in him“.

Proverbs 30:5

This means every single word found in the Bible is perfect, refined, and tried. And is a firm foundation that will never move or change. This is significant because God’s Word can be trusted completely. It is not like a person who may lie or change their mind; God’s Word is steadfast and unchanging.

God’s Word as a Shield

When you trust in God’s Word, it becomes a shield that protects you. But not everyone is protected by God’s Word. Only those who put their trust in him will be shielded from harm. And this is why it is so important to know and trust in all of God’s Word.

The Importance of Knowing God’s Word

To truly succeed, you must know and understand God’s Word. Just like Jesus did on the Emmaus road, we should start with Moses and the prophets. And work our way through the entire Bible. Because there are practical examples found throughout the Bible I can give you. And they can be applied to your everyday life. But Don’t make the mistake of thinking only the book of Proverbs contains wisdom. The entire Bible is filled with God’s wisdom and guidance.

The seventh step to Biblical success this year and beyond is to use all of God’s Word. Trust in the steadfastness of God’s Word, and allow it to be a shield that protects you from harm. Take the time to read and understand the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation. Because by doing so, you will gain a deeper understanding of God’s wisdom and guidance. And you will be well on your way to achieving Biblical success.

*Bonus* Biblical Steps To Success # 8 – Focus On Today!

As Christians, we all should strive for success. And should desire to excel in all aspects of our lives: mentally, physically, Spiritually, and socially.

While there are several Biblical steps to achieve success, there’s a bonus step you need to focus on this year, and beyond.

Bonus Biblical steps for success - 8. Focus On Today

Focus on Today!

The bonus step for Biblical success in 2023 and beyond is to focus on today. Proverbs 27:1 says, “Boast not thyself of to morrow; for you know not what a day may bring forth.”

Proverbs 27:1

We often get caught up worrying about what might happen tomorrow or next week. But we don’t know what the future holds. Instead, we should focus on today and deal with today’s challenges.

Many times I’ve found myself worrying about bills to pay next week, or social events coming in the coming months. But focusing more of your energy on today will make you so much more effective in life.

Jesus’ Wisdom

In Matthew 6:34, Jesus advises us to “take therefore no thought for tomorrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”

Matthew 6:34

We shouldn’t be expending all of our energy on something not guaranteed and can’t control. Every day will bring its own set of challenges, and we should focus our energy on dealing with those challenges.

James’ Wisdom

James 4:13-15 echoes the same wisdom, “Go to now ye that say, today or to morrow we will go into such a city and continue there a year, and buy and sell and get gain, whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live and do this or that.

James 4:13-15

Planning with the Lord’s Will

Planning is not wrong. And me and my wife plan things, but you need to remember to do it with the Lord’s will in mind. Because we don’t know what tomorrow holds for our lives. So, while we can plan for the future, we should leave room for God’s will to be done. And our energy should be focused on dealing with today’s challenges mainly.

Focusing on today is the bonus step for Biblical success in 2023 and beyond. We should not be bogged down by worries about the future. But instead, we should focus our energy on today’s challenges. And this will help us become more successful mentally, physically, Spiritually, and socially. Let us trust in God’s plan for our lives and focus on today.

RECAPPING THE BIBLICAL STEPS TO SUCCESS!

Let’s recap the 7 Biblical Steps To Success in 2023 and beyond.

Step 1: Make a Decision

The first step to achieving success in your life is to make a decision. Don’t hold yourself between two decisions. Decide today to follow the Lord and go all-in. Making a decision is the first step towards success.

Step 2: Don’t Judge by Worldly Standards

Don’t judge by worldly standards, or get caught in that trap. And don’t let worldly, carnal people hold you down, and make you envious. They’re dealing with a temporal, expiring situation. Focus on Godly standards.

Step 3: Be Like Christ

Christ is the wisdom of God. To be wise is to be like Christ. Every time you’re being foolish, you’re not being wise. You’re misrepresenting the King. Be wise.

Step 4: Run to God Immediately

Whenever you’re in trouble or struggling, don’t walk, don’t creep, don’t crawl. Run to God immediately. Run to His name, run to that Strong Tower, that Safe Haven, that High, Inaccessibly High Place of Protection.

Step 5: God is Watching

God is watching you. The same way God is watching me as I do live streams and article likes this, and everything else I do, God is watching you. Mirror what God is showcasing to you. God gives His best, you give your best. Work as unto the Lord in everything you do mentally, physically, Spiritually, and socially.

Step 6: Leave it to God

It’s a hard one, but with God, all things are possible. Leave it to God. Stop fighting and trying to avenge yourself. God is the ultimate avenger. Let God deal with those who have wronged you.

Step 7: Use ALL Of God’s Word

Don’t make the mistake of just settling to read God’s wisdom from Proverbs. There’s so much wisdom in there, just like there is in all of God’s Word. Use all of God’s Word to help you be successful mentally, physically, Spiritually, and socially.

Bonus Step: Focus on Today

This may be the most significant step because today is all that’s guaranteed. Focus on today. When you think about these four areas of life, when you think about your mental life, physical life, Spiritual life, and social life, you need to remember success is going to come from following God, not from following man.
