The Full Armor Of God Explained! You Need Each Piece

The full armor of God is so important for the believer, you need every piece. But I see so many Christians struggling in different areas. I got a message recently asking for help to understand, what we put the full armor of God on for.

Wearing the full armor of God will solve many of your problems. The more Christians that know this the better. That’s why today I’m going to explain each piece of the full armor of God.4.9 The Armor of God - EachDay.orgThe Full armor of God Explained & Why You Need It!

First I want you to think about the fact…

We are in a war.

That’s why God gives us His armor to wear. I can’t tell you how difficult it is at times, to see Christians unaware of this.

You know when the Bible talks about the people are like sheep with no shepherd? With no shepherd, there is no-one to prevent the wolves from attacking.

We are in a war. A war against the deadliest foe there is. The Devil is on the prowl to kill everyone, but especially us as Christians.

You might think what’s happening between Ukraine and Russia, Israel and Hamas, or any other war is bad. But the war we are in, is worse as Christians. But God wants us to be strong.

Ephesians 6 – Putting On The Full Armor Of God

The main text talking about the full armor of God is Ephesians chapter six. There’s other passages in the New Testament, and allusions to everything in the Old Testament.

And as much as I’d love to break this down, I don’t want to overwhelm you, and I want this to be easy for you to understand. Let’s start with Ephesians 6:11. I’ve been speaking about the war we are in. So notice how the scripture starts.

Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Before it says anything about the armor, Paul wants you to know this, so you can stand against the Devil.

Imagine being in the boxing ring against someone fierce like Big Joe Frazier. And he’s giving you all he has, and it doesn’t drop you. He can’t knock you out.

That’s what wearing God’s armor is like. It will keep you safe from the deadliest foes.

A Great Example Of Our Foe

I always think about Job from the Old Testament. God gives us a step-by-step playbook, of the kind of things the Devil would do to you, if he has the chance.

Here I go going deep, when I said I don’t want to overwhelm you, but God’s Word is deep. Look 🙂 , I did a livestream on Job, I’ll leave it linked here. You can watch it all, But there’s a specific part I want you to see.

But think about what happens now, if you are in the ring with Big Joe Frazier and you don’t have your protection.

If you don’t wear the armor, you’re weak. And it won’t be “down goes Frazier”, it will be down goes you.

The First Piece Of The Full Armor Of God

Let’s move to the first piece of the full armor of God. It shows us that Truth Holds Everything Together! Click To Tweet Remember that, truth holds everything together.

The first piece of the full armor of God will help you much in life. The belt (or girdle) of truth.

Ephesians 6:14 says,

Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth…

Have you ever felt like no matter what you do, things don’t seem to hold together?

The belt for the soldier was significant. It held the weapon and armor in place. I’ll take about the soldier’s weapon and armor more in a minute. It also helps you stand up and remain balanced.

This is why it shouldn’t surprise you, it’s the belt of truth. Because God’s truth is what helps you stand.

If you look at areas in your life where things are struggling to stand, think deep. Is God’s truth holding it together or something else?

Should I Lie?

There was a time I was accused of something I did not do. There were those who said, say you did it, so it’s done with, but I was not going to lie about it.

Truth kept me standing, despite many not believing me.

When it came out I was telling the truth, I felt vindicated.

Everything you do should be in truth. It holds everything you do together!

The Second Piece Of The Full Armor Of God

Let’s move to the second piece of the full armor of God. This shows you that Christ’s Sacrifice Keeps You Alive Click To Tweet! Remember, Christ’s Sacrifice Keeps You Alive.

The second piece of the full armor of God will help you much in life. The breastplate of righteousness.

Ephesians 6:14 also says,

and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

Have you ever had something in life that came out of nowhere and rocked you? Even something you knew was coming, but it turned out worse than you could imagine?

The breastplate for the soldier was significant. It protected ALL vital organs. The heart is the main one. Because when your heart stops, your life’s done.

It was also held in place by the belt. And it’s important you understand there’s a link between the pieces of armor. When one piece is missing, other places will suffer.

We know our vital organs keep us alive. And that’s why it’s the breastplate of righteousness.

Christ makes us righteous! He makes us alive. It’s not our intellect, our powerful connections. And it is not loads of money in the bank.

If we trust in ourselves in any area of life, we will die. It’s only a matter of time.

But Christ’s sacrifice gives us new life. We are Born Again.

The Devil’s Plan To Rob You

The devil wants you to trust in your own righteousness. He wants you to believe you can work to get righteousness, because he knows you’re not worthy. And then you expose your vital organs!

And why does he want your vital organs exposed? I’ll talk about that in specific detail a little later.

I spoke about 3 of the devil’s tactics he uses daily to attack you in a video.

When you wear your breastplate, you’re not exposed, because Christ lives in you.

The Third Piece Of The Full Armor Of God

Let’s move to the next piece of the full armor of God. This piece of armor shows you it’s about Walking Through Life In Peace! Click To Tweet Remember, it’s about Walking Through Life In Peace!

The third piece of the full armor of God will help you much in life. The shoes of peace.

Ephesians 6:15 says,

And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

Have you ever walked on shaky ground and fallen over? Have you ever worn shoes that didn’t quite fit, so at the end of the day your feet were sore and swollen?

The shoes for the soldier was significant. It’s the foundation for you staying balanced. We use our feet to crush the head of Satan too. That’s what the Gospel does for us. But the Gospel also helps us go through life in peace.

Whenever you find yourself stressed. Overwhelmed, or panicking, think about what Jesus has done for you.

Paul says in Philippians 4 we should always rejoice.

One of the ways he says we can do that is, by thinking about the Lord’s return.

He’s coming back because He came already. Thinking about the Gospel, should always bring you peace. That’s why we walk in it, daily.

Focus on Christ’s sacrifice for you, more than the problem you are facing, and you will have peace! It’s impossible for you not too.

This is how Stephen in Acts (7:55) could look up to heaven and focus on God’s glory, while stoned to death.

The peace of God passes all understanding. Walk in the peace, the Gospel brings, everyday.

The Fourth Piece Of The Full Armor Of God

The next piece of the full armor of God shows you that Faith Will Keep You Safe! Click To Tweet Remember, Faith Will Keep You Safe!

The fourth piece of the full armor of God will help you much in life. The shield of faith.

Ephesians 6:16 says,

Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

Have you ever felt like life wouldn’t give you a break? And from all angles, bad news keeps coming?

The devil wants that for you EVERYDAY.

The reason we need God’s armor, is because we are soldiers in a war. The shield makes it very clear this is true.

Earlier I asked, why does the Devil want you not wearing a breastplate covering your vital organs? It’s because he’s sending fiery darts for you.

The shield for the soldier was significant. It’s the main way to defend against attacks. We use our shields to stop the enemy’s attacks. Imagine fiery darts coming your way but your shield is down.

Faith is your best defensive weapon. But not faith in yourself. Faith in God.

God Wins

One of the greatest things that’s helped my walk is accepting, that God wins. If I wear the armor, I win. If I do the things God says to do, I win. So as scary as it is to think about fiery arrows coming for me, my marriage, our family, or even at you, I have peace. Because I’m a winner.

Think about every area of your life. I like to break it down into 4 sections. Your mind, body, Spirit and connections.

The Devil is sending fiery darts at your mind to distract you. He’s sending fiery darts at your body, to keep you ill, broke and defeated. The Devil is sending fiery darts at your spirit, so you don’t read the Bible, don’t pray, don’t fast. He wants to rob you of all Spiritual growth.

And the Devil is sending fiery darts at your connections. He doesn’t want you to put this armor on and share the good news. He doesn’t want you to have good friends, or to be a good friend.

The Devil wants to keep you isolated. Alone. But God’s shield which is faith, keeps you safe, from the attacks of the Devil.

Whenever you find yourself hurt, feeling like it’s time to quit, or exhausted with life…

Focus on building your faith in God. Because there is no situation bigger than Him. He will protect you from every situation.

Keep your faith in Him.

The Fifth Piece Of The Full Armor Of God

Now let’s go to the next piece of the full armor of God. This piece shows you how to Protect Your Mind From Land Mines! Click To Tweet This piece shows you how to Protect Your Mind From Land Mines!

I use to play Call of Duty a lot when I was younger. One of the things you could do is plant bombs on the ground. And then people who didn’t see it, would run over it and it would kill them.

This was a strategy used a lot in real war in the past. It’s effective. The Devil leaves land mines behind, to distract, dampen, and then defeat your mind.

The fifth piece of the full armor of God will help you much in life. The helmet of salvation.

Ephesians 6:17 says,

And take the helmet of salvation.

Have you ever thought about what you’re thinking about?

The devil doesn’t want you to do this. But this is important. The helmet for the soldier was significant. It protected the brain from damage. And protecting your brain is vital.

Imagine the fiery darts from a moment ago, hitting your head with no helmet.

Here are some things the Bible says we should do, to protect our mind daily.

  • Psalm 1 says, we should Fill our mind (with God’s Word).
  • Romans 12 says, we should Renew our mind. We must take out the old, and add in the new.
  • 1 Peter 1 says, we should Dress our mind. We should keep our mind dressed and covered, not naked or exposed.

Your mind SHOULD NOT get filled with worry, doubt, or worldly things. That means your helmet is not on. But…

Embrace Your New Identity

Your helmet helps you live, always thinking about the fact, you’re a child of God.

This is what salvation is. And the more you think about you’re new identity, the problems you face can’t hurt you. You may think it’s impossible now. But practice thinking this way, and watch what happens.

Keep your helmet on.

The Sixth Piece Of The Full Armor Of God

The next piece of armor is what I wish more believers used. This piece of armor shows you, you must Use The Sword, Given To You, By Your Lord! Click To Tweet Use The Sword, Given To You, By Your Lord!

The sixth piece of the full armor of God will help you much in life. The sword of the Spirit.

Ephesians 6:17 also says,

And the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God

Would you like to defeat the Devil, every time he attacks yo

Use your sword.

That’s what Jesus did. He’s tempted 3 times by the Devil, and 3 times, He used His sword to slay him. Even one of the quotations Jesus used against the Devil in the wilderness, reminds you to use your sword.

One of the things Jesus said was,

“Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.” (Luke 4:4)

(that’s quoting Deuteronomy 8:3).

Not with money, or connections. But you slay every enemy, with the Word of God. The sword for the soldier was significant. It was how soldiers killed enemies when in close combat. You must use it.

Imagine someone running at you on the battlefield to kill you, but you don’t use your sword. That’s what the Devil wants to happen.

But God has given you these 6 pieces of armor to dominate the enemy. Dominate sin. And bring everything under the power of God. Use every piece to start dominating.

God Bless and I’ll see you soon.
