This Is Why Things You’re Doing Are Dying Instead Of Living!

Many Christians today feel surrounded by things that seem “dead.” Dead finances. No motivation. Dead dreams. Dead opportunities.

Over the past few years, God began showing me that life and death are not random forces. They follow a pattern—a system—and every person operates in one of two types of systems: the right system or the wrong system.

Understanding which system you’re operating under explains why some people thrive while others stay stuck—even when both groups “want” the same results.

And strangely enough, the revelation began with something as simple as breathing.

Years ago, I heard Dave Ramsey say something that stuck with me:

“People who get healthier often see their finances improve… and people whose finances improve often get healthier. Life tends to move in patterns.”

The more I watched people, the clearer it became that habits bleed into every category of life. Someone who goes all-in on their health usually goes all-in on other commitments. Someone who cuts corners in one area almost always cuts corners everywhere else.

Your life runs on systems — whether you recognize them or not. Share on X

While working out one morning, I felt completely out of breath. That exhaustion immediately reminded me of something I learned years ago when I lost a significant amount of weight.

When you lose fat, you literally breathe it out.

That idea sounded strange the first time I heard it, but it stuck. And years later, there I was again—gasping for air—realizing how deeply spiritual and practical the concept really is.

Exercise forces your body to take in a dramatic amount of oxygen while releasing a dramatic amount of carbon dioxide. In a single workout, you inhale far more life and expel far more “death” than you normally would throughout the day.

And suddenly, the entire system became incredibly clear.

The person who exercises is literally increasing the intake of oxygen (life) and pushing out carbon dioxide (death). That’s why their body and energy improve, and their mind sharpens.

This is also why the right system always leads to growth:

  • More wisdom is taken in than foolishness.
  • Truth is received in greater measure than lies.
  • Discipline is embraced instead of laziness.
  • Correction is welcomed rather than pride.

This is the system of the wise, the diligent, and the fruitful. It’s the same system behind why the rich often get richer.

Then there’s the second system—the one most people unknowingly operate under.

A person may be breathing in oxygen (life) simply because they exist. But if their habits are constantly pulling in “death,” they’ll never see progress.

That moment in my workout led me to remember a health book I once read. The author talked about people who drink soda excessively. Soda is filled with carbon—the same element we’re supposed to breathe out.

So imagine this:

You breathe in oxygen (life) and breathe out CO₂ (death). But then you immediately swallow that same death right back by drinking carbon-heavy drinks all day long.

It’s a picture of someone sabotaging their own system. It’s not about the soda—it’s about the pattern.

Most people are doing the same thing spiritually, financially, emotionally, and relationally. They take in a little life but drown it by absorbing ten times more death.

And then they wonder why nothing changes.

Whether we’re talking about:

  • Your relationship with God
  • The state of your business
  • The health of your marriage
  • The management of your finances
  • The condition of your physical health
  • The patterns of your daily habits

…you’re either feeding life or feeding death.

Those who succeed operate on the side that brings in more oxygen than carbon dioxide—more life than death.

Those who struggle are usually doing the opposite without realizing it.

It’s why someone who walks for 20 minutes a day ends up healthier over time. Why someone who learns one new business principle a week ends up wealthier over time. And why someone who removes one bad habit at a time ends up more stable over time.

If you want real transformation, choose the system that God blesses: bring in life, and remove death.

The very first gift God ever gave humanity was breath. He could have started with strength… or speech… or vision.

But He chose breath.

Because life begins with taking in what comes from Him—and releasing what doesn’t.

So ask yourself:

Consider what you are inhaling.

Reflect on what you are exhaling.

Ask yourself what you might be swallowing back in—things God never intended for you to receive.

The moment these questions become clear, so does your future.

When your business runs according to the right system, it thrives. This means intentionally bringing in life through developing your skills, gaining wisdom, practicing faithful stewardship, creating real value, and maintaining consistency.

At the same time, it requires actively pushing out what brings death—like fear, procrastination, excuses, and distractions. When these elements are in balance, growth becomes inevitable.
