How to Create Time for What Truly Sets You Free

Are you tired of working all day with little to no time left for the things that truly matter?

Many Christians find themselves in this cycle—giving their best hours to a job that pays the bills, but leaves them drained, exhausted, and unable to pursue the vision that God has placed on their hearts.

Recently, I had a conversation with someone who was struggling with this very issue. He shared how he works long hours into the night, finishing deliverables for his workplace. It keeps the bills paid, but it doesn’t give him joy.

He admitted that when he works on his job, he feels no passion, no desire, no spark. But when he carves out time to work on his own ideas—the very things he knows could eventually give him freedom—he feels alive, energized, and motivated.

The problem? He doesn’t have enough time to invest in those dreams. And that’s a struggle many of us know far too well.

Whenever I face business or life challenges, I go straight back to the Word of God. That’s why I say you should win with the Word.

As I reflected on this man’s struggle, one passage kept coming to my mind: Genesis 1.

Here’s what it says:

“And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.” — Genesis 1:31

God created the heavens and the earth in six days. On the seventh day, He rested.

Now think about this: God is all-powerful and all-wise. He could have spoken everything into existence in an instant. Yet, He chose to work over a period of six days. Why?

I believe one reason is to show us the blueprint for living and working well. He modeled a rhythm of productivity, profitability, and pleasure.

In another teaching, I’ve talked about the idea of the perfect week. It contains three essential elements:

  1. Productive – You get things done.
  2. Profitable – You receive reward for your efforts.
  3. Pleasurable – You enjoy what you’re doing.

Most people unfortunately spend their weeks being productive only for their employer. They earn a paycheck, but they neglect their own personal work—the very projects that bring long-term joy and freedom.

Genesis shows us that God designed work differently. He didn’t rush. He didn’t complete everything in a single day. Instead, He worked steadily and declared the outcome “good.”

Many people make the mistake of waiting for their job to give them more time. They expect lighter schedules, fewer demands, or the “perfect moment” to start their dream. But their workplace keeps demanding more, and that moment never arrives.

Your job will take as much time and effort as you allow. That’s why, if you want to move closer to freedom, you must create time for your own vision—even if it’s just minutes a day.

Many people assume that at the end of each creation day, God looked at His work and said, “It is good.” But if you read carefully, you’ll notice something fascinating. On some days, He didn’t say that.

Instead, He continued His work and later said it was good—sometimes declaring it twice in one day.

What does this mean for us? That not every day will feel “complete.” Some days, your efforts may feel small or unfinished. But that doesn’t make them useless.

The key is consistency over time.

Even if you can only give:

  • 1 minute on one day,
  • 5 minutes the next,
  • 20 minutes another day,

…it still counts. Over time, those small, faithful acts compound into something powerful.

I know this from experience. In my first year of online business, I made zero sales. None. At the time, it was frustrating. But I kept showing up—creating, building, and learning—even if it was just a few minutes each day.

Fast forward to today, and I now help Christians through my program, CashFlow for Christians. This course shows believers how to take their hobbies, skills, or expertise and turn them into digital products that bring consistent income.

I created it because I see so many Christians trapped in what I call the broken system—a system that takes up your best time and energy while leaving you with little freedom.

But there’s also a winning system—where your time and efforts build something for you, your family, and the people you’re called to serve.

The difference between the two systems often comes down to whether you’re willing to consistently invest time, no matter how small, into your God-given vision.

I know what you might be thinking: “But I’m exhausted. My job takes everything out of me. How can I possibly work on my dream after all that?”

Here’s the truth: the very thing you want to work on is what will actually energize you. Just like my friend, who felt drained doing his job but alive when working on his personal project, you’ll find that working on your God-given vision will revive you.

That’s why even five minutes matters. Because in those five minutes, you’re not just working—you’re aligning with your calling.

So here’s my encouragement: Don’t let another day pass without working on the thing God has called you to build. Even if it’s only for a short time, do it six days a week. That’s the pattern God modeled in Genesis.

Over time, you’ll look back at your week, your month, your year, and you’ll be able to say, “It is very good.”

If you’ve been feeling exhausted and stuck in the cycle of 40+ hour workweeks, I encourage you to read this next article. It unpacks why the traditional work system is designed to drain you, and how God’s Word gives you a better way forward.
