Running Out of Time? God’s Word Says You’re Not
Do you ever feel like time is slipping away? Like you should have taken the steps one year ago, five years ago, maybe even ten years ago? That regret can feel like a heavy weight.
Many people find themselves looking back and beating themselves up: “Why didn’t I do this earlier?”
But here’s the good news: God’s Word teaches us that no matter what we missed yesterday, today is still an opportunity to move forward.
There’s an old proverb that says:
“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The next best time is today.”
The same principle applies to your life, your calling, and your walk with God.
Why So Many Christians Feel Stuck
I talk to believers all the time who are working hard jobs, long hours, and wondering if there’s more to life. Even those who work from home often feel chained to their screens instead of free to live fully.
Deep down, they know they were made for more—but something holds them back.
Most of the time, it’s not a lack of opportunity. It’s the stories we tell ourselves:
- “I don’t look the part.”
- “I’m not as smart as I need to be.”
- “I don’t have enough experience.”
- “I’m too young.”
- “I’m too old.”
The enemy loves to use both sides of that lie. He’ll convince you you’re too young, and if you wait long enough, he’ll try to convince you you’re too old.
Either way, the goal is the same—to keep you from taking action on what God has called you to do.
My Battle With Gray Hairs
Let me give you an example from my own life. I’m in my 30s, but I already have gray hairs. For a long time, that small thing discouraged me from creating videos. In my head I thought:
“Everyone will notice. They’ll think I’m too old. They’ll focus on my appearance instead of my message.”
That insecurity became a barrier. And while your struggle may not be gray hair, we all have something that tries to hold us back.
But here’s what changed everything: I went to God’s Word. I asked, “Lord, what do You say about this?”
That’s when Matthew 5:36 hit me:
“Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.” – Matthew 5:36
Jesus reminded me that I don’t even have control over a single hair on my head. I can’t make it white, I can’t make it black. Only God can.
That realization brought me peace. My gray hairs weren’t a failure on my part—they were simply part of God’s plan and timing.
Once I shifted my perspective, what used to discourage me started to empower me. Instead of hiding my gray hairs, I began to speak openly about them, using my experience to encourage others.
The difference wasn’t in the situation—it was in how I looked at it through the lens of God’s Word.
How God Turns Negatives Into Positives
That lesson is true for more than just gray hairs. In fact, all of us face weaknesses, regrets, or insecurities that threaten to hold us back. However, when we surrender them to God, He can transform them into strengths.
For example, think about Paul the Apostle. Before coming to Christ, Paul (then Saul) was a persecutor of Christians. He arrested believers, approved their deaths, and did everything he could to destroy the church.
Yet even so, God chose him. Paul even called himself “the chief of sinners” (1 Timothy 1:15).
“This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.” – 1 Timothy 1:15
So why would God choose someone like Paul? The answer is simple: so the whole world could see the greatness of His mercy and grace.
Paul went on to write much of the New Testament and to become one of the greatest missionaries in history. His story proves that what we see as a disqualification is often what God uses to display His glory.
Don’t Waste Today
Here’s the truth: God is not asking you to go back ten years and start again. He’s asking you to trust Him today.
Yes, maybe you missed opportunities in the past. Maybe you didn’t take the step you should have taken. But God can redeem the time. He can take what looks wasted and make it fruitful.
Ephesians 5:16 says:
“Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” – Ephesians 5:16
That means it’s not too late.
