Shaykh Uthman Challenges an Aussie Preacher: Exposing the Tactics

In this discussion from Perth, Australia, Shaykh Uthman Farooq approaches a Christian preacher over a pamphlet titled Jesus and the Quran.

His goal? To discredit Biblical claims about Jesus by accusing Christians of misrepresenting the Qur’an. But from the very beginning, it’s clear: the one taking Scripture out of context isn’t the preacher—it’s the Shaykh himself.

“God is not a man, that he should lie…” —Numbers 23:19

Shaykh Uthman references this verse to argue Jesus cannot be God. But the context is about God’s perfection and truthfulness, not His ability to incarnate.

This is a classic case of misusing Scripture to defend a pre-determined conclusion.

Much of the conversation revolves around John 1:1 and the use of the Greek word Logos.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”—John 1:1

Shaykh Uthman argues that “Logos” doesn’t uniquely refer to Jesus, but to general revelation or God’s order. However, the Gospel of John does something profoundly different.

It personalizes the Word. It’s not just abstract reason or divine command—it is Christ Himself.

“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us…”—John 1:14

This isn’t metaphor. The Word isn’t just God’s wisdom—it’s the eternal Son made flesh. The Shaykh’s approach ignores this critical distinction in context.

He references how “logos” appears elsewhere in Greek texts but refuses to acknowledge the uniqueness of John’s use when it declares the Word was God.

Throughout the conversation, Shaykh Uthman accuses the Christian of taking things out of context while doing the exact same. He wants to deny that Jesus is God but can’t confront the full argument in John 1.

The preacher presents clear, step-by-step logic: the Word is God, the Word created all things, the Word became flesh.

“All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.”—John 1:3

Uthman redefines the “Word” as an impersonal command of God rather than a person. But how do people reject, crucify, and turn away from a mere “order”?

John 1 doesn’t describe an abstract concept. It describes someone. The apostle clearly distinguishes Jesus from John the Baptist.

“He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.”—John 1:8

If John had to clarify that John the Baptist wasn’t “the Light,” that implies the Light is not merely an idea but a person—Jesus Christ.

Further down,

“He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.”—John 1:10

This verse makes no sense unless the Word is personal. You can’t reject or fail to recognize a concept. But you can reject a person—and they rejected Christ.

The final blow comes in verse 14:

“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory…)”—John 1:14

Despite all this, Shaykh Uthman insists that Jesus is not the Word. He claims Jesus is a result of God’s order—not God Himself. This is not only unbiblical—it’s intellectually dishonest.

When a man continually jumps between Greek terms, ignores context, and avoids clear Scripture, it’s not about seeking truth—it’s about winning arguments.

This exchange is more than just a debate. It’s a reminder to Christians:

  1. Know the Word deeply.
  2. Understand context.
  3. Be ready to defend your faith.

False teachers love twisting Scripture. Just as Satan used Scripture in the wilderness (Matthew 4), so do many today. But Scripture rightly divided always exposes error.

“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”—John 17:17

Shaykh Uthman’s attempt to twist the Word of God only proves how powerful and personal the Word really is.

Jesus is not just a prophet, not just a messenger. He is the eternal Logos—the Word made flesh. Share on X

If you’re a Christian seeking clarity and confidence in conversations like this, it’s time to go deeper in God’s Word and understand how to rightly divide it.
